Blogging the Election – Attending Ard Fheiseanna

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Suzy recently posted about signing up bloggers to go to the various party conferences and press events. It would be interesting to see which parties would be open to the idea of letting bloggers attend and live blog from these very staged events. Will Fianna Fail with their poor record on broadband have proper net access at their Ard Fheis? Will Fine Gael provide enough strong coffee so the bloggers don’t fall asleep on their laptops when Enda tries to create a personality? If you want to attend events like these and want to do it under the IrishElection.com brand then contact Suzy.

But bloggers don’t just have to cover political events. After reading Bernie’s coverage of the Young Scientist Exhibition I must say I am unimpressed with the coverage from everywhere else. A few papers did the usual end-of-event reporting and that’s about it. I emailed BT and suggested that next time they set up a space for bloggers and podcasters and let them freely roam and blog and talk to who they find interesting. A few bloggers at events like this would make a big difference and hopefully, just hopefully, some undiscovered gems will be found.

There’s lost of events that would benefit from inviting bloggers along. Even the Ideal Homes Exhibition would benefit. I’d suggest Oxyegen too but MCD might sue me or something. 🙂

The best way to get rid of wartime sodium? Dump tonnes of it in a lake. Well done older generation!

Printers who do Moo card style biz cards?

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Anyone know any printers who would make cards like the Moo cards? I’d prefer giving an Irish company some cash but it also comes down to value for money so I’d be happy to use a Polish company or one like that. I want cards like the Moo cards but I don’t want a Flickr background. I wonder have Moo trademarked the size? 🙂

Libel Insurance – Any cover for bloggers?

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Fergus Cassidy mentions a firm in the UK offering libel/slander/copyright violation insurance to journalists and he inquired (no word back yet) as to whether they cover bloggers.

The one bit that caught my eye and made me say “can they really do that?” was this:

More and more publications are now requiring freelancers to indemnify against libel/slander/defamation as a condition of accepting the story

I would have thought the publications as the ones publishing were the ones liable, contract or no. What’s the point in writing for the big orgs if they are not going to protect you?

2FM to get Strawberry Alarm Clock?

Friday, January 12th, 2007

A thread on boards.ie and another on the radiowaves forum are saying that the lads behind 104FM’s Strawberry Alarm clock were escorted out of the 104FM offices today. Rumours are that they are replacing Marty Whelan. About bloody time 2FM!

All mention of the lads seems to have disappeared from the 104fm site too.

Bebo launch Bebo Authors – An interface to Amazon. They seem to have beaten mySpace to the punch. Surprised there hasn’t been more social networking sites doing this with the demographics they have.

Speaking of Casio, my username for Second Life is casio Tone. Say hello. (If I ever log back in.)

Bebo Award – The more that enter, the bigger the prize

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

The Bebo Award, run off the Irish Awards Bebo profile is going well enough. 100 profiles have been entered. The more profiles, the better the prize. Right now the prize is an iPod Shuffle. It will turn into an iPod Nano if over 400 people are entered and it will become something a little better again if over 1000 profiles are entered. Hat tip to the marketing pilgrim.
