Bye Bye Bodega :(

Monday, February 5th, 2007

As Tom notes, the Bodega is closing. This Friday in fact. I really loved that bar. Anyone interested in going in there on Thu or Friday evening for one last hurrah and to thank the staff. Or most of them anyway. With a few exceptions the staff in there are wonderfully helpful and friendly and quite chatty. You feel welcome in the place unlike so many other places these days. What’s worse is that they’re turning it into a clothes store or something. Jesus. More here on Boards.ie too. Also more here and here.

Anyway, who fancies calling in and having a pint there to say goodbye?

Which TDs are on drugs? Sign a petition to find out

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Drug test your TD. Enda Kenny wants to drug test schoolkids. Enda should be tested too and all the rest. I’d love to know what kind of weed some Ministers seem to be smoking.

Update: John in the comments points to what happened in Italy.

Nailing jelly to a wall. Can’t be done, I’m betting it can if thought through. Ideally this should have been a video on YouTube.

Rob has yet another blog.

IDAFYA 3 – Roam4Free.ie – Update my friends

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Part 3 of “I didn’t ask for your f… advice”. Roam4Free recently launched their roaming pre-paid sim card. The idea is that receiving calls and making calls will be cheap with this sim. The main drawbacks for the service are that people will have to ring an Estonian mobile number to contact you and the same goes for texts. I may be wrong, but I don’t see anywhere on the site that says you can update your friends with your new number. A simple service to add then would be to upload an address book and have a simple “Update my friends” option which would ask for some dates and numbers and you could sent texts out to all your friends, colleagues and clients with a text message like the following:

Hi Everyone,
This is Pat Phelan, this is my number while I’m traveling. If you want to contact me from February 12th to February 23rd or anytime I’m away then use this number.

Blogorrah to launch Huff Post blog for Ireland?

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Via the Irish Echo:

O’Connor thinks blogging has the potential to significantly impact on the election outcome.

“It’s going to be a bloggers election,” he said. “An Irish election has never been held up for the kind of scrutiny that bloggers can offer. The majority of Irish media tows a certain line: this is how we’re supposed to feel, this is how we’re supposed to react. I think there’s an irreverence that blogging can offer. I think the bloggers are a lot more in touch with the people, whose views are a lot more mixed, a lot more confused and, in some cases, a lot more apathetic than people think.”

The Blogorrah team is keen to get involved with the election; their next step is to start up a more politically-based Irish blog, akin to the Huffington Post, that will give Irish bloggers a forum in which to discuss and openly debate political matters.

So there ye have it folks. I’d love to see something like this. Competition is great. While they’re at it they should buy Beaut.ie before the Indo or Times snaps them up. Oh and pity Lads.ie is taken as that would be great to see a website geared towards Irish lads. I wonder could there be an Irish version of Fleshbot too… wishful thinking. This is kind of my second Blogorrah related post today. No, I don’t want a job. Juggling 5 is enough ta.

Lots of bloggers in Dublin on Feb 1st

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Myself, John, Brian, and Johnny will be at the Digital Media Awards tomorrow evening. EDIT: And Conn! There’s also a blogger curry going on in Dublin organised by Paul Walsh. I also hear that John “I didn’t know he was a ginger til Blogorrah mentioned it”Ryan will aso be at the Digital Media Awards. Himself and John Breslin and a few others are up for the Best Blog award. (Not affiliated with the Irish Blog Awards) I got a spare ticket at the last minute so I’ve given it to Twenty. John, he’ll be the one with the slingshot.

Flowers Made Easy have a bebo page.

Nostalgia links from Mick.

I did not choke. See.

Mobile providers not making as much. My heart bleeds.

Meanwhile the French Regulator has a pair and fights in Court to fine France Telecom a heap of money. Unlike the Poodle who capitulates and settles most cases on the steps of the Court. Or as the recent case was, they let eircom off with gross abuse of data AND agree not to find eircom at fault. What bollox.

I will never use it. But I want one. Simpsons Donut Maker.

No Wow with Vista despite the marketing.

Trolley fun.

Micheál it might not affect your reality but it reflects the reality of 350 bloody people in Cork.

Two projects I’m working on are because of ideas in the shower. I agree with Robin, I do think showers are like meditating. Only time I am away from all my distractions. I wonder are there are a lot of “entrepreneurs” like that.

And they call it pocket love. Levi’s sues over pocket design.

There’s tough bastards and there’s Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Cutting off yer own fingers. Damn.

Anyone in Dublin annoyed with their eircom service? Contact me asap

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Anyone in the Dublin area one of the people that emailed Ray D’Arcy about their eircom issues? If so email me: damien < at > mulley dot Net. Looking to talk to someone this evening.

Update: Sorted.
