the weekend has landed ..

Friday, August 8th, 2003

Too much to do this weekend. Have to collect my laptop from work tonight too. Have to get the skeleton of a website up and running and do some writing too.

All fun, all the time.

Looking forward to going to Tipton Monday morning. Nice to get out of this country for a few days.

Off to bank to clear my creditcard, then home to book flights to amsterdam.

Xeni talks about “Social Fisking” here and I find it an interesting application. I’ve written this kinda rant / essay and each paragraph contains one argument/point (its the way my teachers thought me to write essays for school exams ) and the idea of having a quicktopic discussion at the end of every paragraph is cool.

I’ll upload my essay/rant and do that. Add to my todo list.

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it

I’m going through a book about GLBTQ teens at the moment. (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgendered Questioning) and its helping me figure out what will be needed and won’t be needed for the Irish Gay Teen Resource site. I’m getting excited at how it should work out now.

Things will start coming together this weekend.

Two people eavesdropping on someone elses conversation in work and commenting on that person and taking the piss out of them. Austin where are you ? I miss our conversations taking the mick out of so many of the people in work.

That is all.

“In the age of the leak and the blog, of evidence extraction and link discovery, truths will either out or be outed, later if not sooner. This is something I would bring to the attention of every diplomat, politician and corporate leader: the future, eventually, will find you out.”

Yes indeed this is true. All it takes is one person who can get access to the net or access to someone with access to the net and the truth will come out.

Tribe.net

Monday, July 28th, 2003

Set up a profile for myself on Tribe.net
Stuck this into my profile:

When I was a kid I wanted to be a rockstar like Axl Rose, I wanted to write and direct my own movies, write a book, run a marathon, change the world in some small way, make politics work, make loads of money, have a family, get my hair dyed a wild colour, have hot passionate sex with someone special, get a tattoo, get a piercing, travel the world, go into space and have hundreds of friends. I’m still a kid. I’ll always be a kid.

linked and social networks

Monday, July 28th, 2003

I’m wondering is there a measurable way to see if adding a bit more social interaction to a network of colleagues increases productivity.

We all know meeting work colleagues for beers or going on a weekend trip can make you undertand your co-worker more and allow you to become more tolerant of that person.

I wonder how you could do this though with people you will not meet for years and might not even be in telephone contact ?

I’ll add this question to my things to ponder list..

K-Blogs

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

I have to start looking into k-blogs and other new ways of sharing knowledge. Right now our knowledgebase isn’t great but we’re of course working on it. Getting people to use it and contribute to it is really hard. Especially the contribution part.

Its their KB but they won’t a contribute to it to make it better. Theres a mailing list that they use quite a bit which should only really be used after not finding stuff in the knowledgebase.

I think I’ll try and get something implemented to push them into submitting stuff. I’ll get out processes person to make it a formal quality process maybe.

And now to do work. 🙂

bug biting

Friday, July 18th, 2003

The bug is begining to bite. Just found myself leaving a website pretty quickly because it didn’t have an rss feed so I couldn’t add it to my news aggregator. Sad sad sad.

This is an interesting website: http://nanobot.blogspot.com/
