The Fianna Fáil Rally Frenzy

Johnny Brady really gets worked up into a frenzy to warm the crowd for Thomas Byrne. Below is my favourite part of the longer video.

This is the original video it came from. Love the diddlyaye music. Love the speeches. So this is what a Fianna Fáil rally is like.

He has me convinced. I’m voting for Adolf Ahern.

  2. McAWilliams says:

Holy shit im joining that religious cult, I felt their passion, and it was so much more exciting then that debate, mainly due to the rockin tune in the background.

  3. Gamma Goblin says:

The last time I saw hand gestures like that was in Nuremberg ’38. He could have someones eye out if he’s not careful.

  4. […] We’ve been missing a few bits of compulsory ephemera and staging this campaign. Ah the electoral rally – Thomas Byrne (FF- Meath East) had a visit from Bertie at the beginning of the month. And it’s recorded for posterity. I nearly ran round the corner to Dance World and bought a pair of hard shoes. The guy whipping up the frenzy at the beginning before Thomas comes to the podium is Johnny Brady – the retiring TD for the constituency. Now I wonder how many times Johnny as spoken in the Dail …because I’m sure I am not the only one going Johnny who?? Damien has made Johnny an election celeb in his own right. […]

  5. Thomas Byrne says:

Thanks for the comments guys. First off – Johhny is not retiring. He is moving to Meath West and I am the candidate for Meath East. Johnny got huge support in previous elections in large parts of the Meath East area, so it is a privilege to be getting an endorsement from him. Incidentally, Johnny Brady gave a similar rallyingcry at his own campaign launch in Kells Easter Saturday night. this is country politics, about hard work and connecting with the community.

I wasn’t going to post the video as we are running a low key campaign from a national point of view. However, at a constituency level, I think you can see that our campaign is anything but low key. There were more people at our Drumconrath rally with the Taoiseach than attend some parties’ annual conferences! So I think that the commentariat in Dublin and elsewhere may be in a for a shock as regards Meath East. I am battling hard, canvassing harder than anyone and in for a serious chance for a seat.

  6. Thomas Byrne says:

And i am being ironic about my thanks for the comments, guys.

  7. Mama says:

Country Politics? I don’t think so … It’s more like…Fianna Fail we’re better than anyone else and god forbid anyone say otherwise. Also what Dublin commentariat?? One of the many good things about the blogosphere is that it’s very far removed from Dublin 4. Ah sure there’ll be aspersions about our sexuality next, nothing new in Meath East.

  8. Twenty Major says:

And i am being ironic about my thanks for the comments, guys.

And thank you for taking the time to explain that to us, Thomas. We’d never have known otherwise.

  9. URQUHART says:

Turns out the ‘country politics’ aint so bad – Byrne confounds the experts and delivers a second seat in Meath East. Just like it says in the video.
