Mad Men comes to Ireland and will make you smoke

Mad Men

Mad Men is finally coming to these shores. Currently on season 2 in the States, this is a must-see TV series from some of the Sopranos staffers. It is the most visually stunning TV series I’ve ever watched. There are some scenes in it that will make you go “oooh” if you enjoy luscious design, typography and cinematography.

It will also make you want to smoke. A lot. And drink a lot. The sets, the costumes and superb writing. It’s got it all.

RTÉ 2 tonight – 11:30pm

You’re spot on! Saw an episode of this last year on some hotel satellite and it kept bothering me how compelling, yet old-fashioned it was and I have ever since been wondering what the hell it was I was watching. Absolutely politically incorrect for these times yet you have to accept it in the context of the times, etc. Post-WWII era where men in grey suits marched in step. Here’s an interesting clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2bLNkCqpuY&feature=related

Adding that clip now! That scene is even more powerful if you watch the whole episode.

Awesome. Setting my NTL dvr thingy to “stun” as we speak.

And it’s also got the hunka hunka burnin’ love that is Don Draper…

I’m on Season 2 already. Love the way Peggy is paving her own way in such sexist, very un-PC times.

Am half way through the first season.. am loving the subtleties aswell.. you know kids playing with plastic bags… pregnant women smoking and drinking like mad! And Don Draper… swoon!

  7. Nice one. I’ve watched a few episodes online after your Twitter recommendations and have been enjoying it thoroughly.

Now I can recommend it to the norms (=those who prefer to watch TV on the TV). Hurray!

This is good news, i’ve been actively looking for reasons to increase my alcohol consumption.

  9. Apparently type nerds should avoid the end credits at all costs. Something about Arial.
