    The Data Protection Day is actually a Council of Europe initiative that has the support of one of the EU institutions.

    The CoE is a distinct entity from the EU (and has more member states).

    (Curiously, a search for the exact phrase “Data Protection Day” on the EU’s website returns no hits.)
