Too many BarCamps spoil the broth?

Cork. May

Dublin. When?

Galway. July 07/07/07

Ideally I’ve love to see BarCamps move away from just general tech and focus on a specific topic. Such as BarCamp Bank:

BarCampBank is a community of people interested in disruptive innovations in the world of banking and finance

Working on that very subject at the moment Damien.
Should have an announcement over the next few months.

  2. Twenty Major says:

I’m going to launch Beercamp and it will be about beer.

Not tricksy like these Barcamp things which have nothing to do with bars.

  3. Well we we’re trying to pin down a venue for April for Barcamp Dublin (still awaiting a response from the Digital Hub) but I don’t think there is a lot of value is scheduling two such similar events within a month of each other.

I have to add that given the first Barcamp was in Cork, it might be time for Cork to give the rest of the world a chance before leaping in for a second event.

  4. John Breslin says:

I must admit, I hadn’t heard of Dublin or Cork – no mention on the planning page

I can cancel Galway if needs be. But Cork should postpone if possible.

  5. Damien says:

I’d like to see new places myself too.

  6. John,

I hadn’t heard of Galway until to day. I think there is a big enough gap (geographically and temporally) between Dublin/Galway and April/July. Also I quite fancy a trip to Galway in June :-).

    Joe.

  7. John, your locking Barcamp Ireland planning page.

  8. Branedy says:

How about BarCamp ‘Getting an IT Job in Cork’?

  9. John Breslin says:

Weird, I just edited and closed it, not sure why it’d be locked.

I don’t think it’d be a good idea to have too many BarCamp Ireland’s all together – if Cork is scheduled for the summer, we’ll postpone Galway until two to three months later. At this rate, there will be BarCamps every two months (nearly October -> January -> April -> July)… Nuts! BTW Joe, if you are going ahead with BarCamp Dublin, please take over the BarCamp Ireland 3 page and we’ll go for 4 😀

  10. John Breslin says:

Or 5 if Cork goes ahead in May. Tom is in Dublin AFAIR so may be a delay in settling the dates…

  11. John Breslin says:

Okay, I’ve talked with Tom and assuming BarCamp Ireland 3 (BarCamp Dublin) goes ahead in April / May, BarCamp Ireland 4 (Galway) will happen in September and BarCamp Ireland 5 (BarCamp Cork: The Rebels Strike Back) will be in December / January.

  12. John Breslin says:

I’ve updated the BarCampIreland3 and href=”http://barcamp.org/BarCampIreland4″>BarCampIreland4 wiki pages.

  13. I’m glad to see that there’s a Dublin one, anyway; I should probably be able to make it to it. 🙂
