English website Slugger O’Toole decides to be bitchy about me

Mick Fealty has been busy twittering about me:

Damien’s marketing MO is to attack viciously and then befriend: http://url.ie/2z88 It’s an impressively effective strategy.

In the linking blog post Mick says I said unkind things about Ivan Yates on Twenty’s blog:

How the net retains traces of your petulant past…

When Googling for the original tweet though I came across this less than kind remark by Damien regarding Mr Yates on Twenty’s blog (warning: not for the faint hearted)… But then again, maybe the old fogey will never find out…

Trouble is? Not Damien Mulley that said that. Nor someone pretending to me. Just because someone with the first name Damien leaves a comment on a blog doesn’t mean it’s me. But why change a bitter pattern of attack via a fake compliment at this stage?

I’m hoping that Slugger investor Channel 4 and Mick Fealty (never wrong for long it seems) will make an apology for being so quick to make such an unfounded personal attack. Hopefully the sterling that the once popular blog gets (Perhaps to pay their hosting bill so it doesn’t go offline again?) might also be used to maybe train Mick et al on how to do proper research online.

  1. TUG says:

    Ivan Yates is a bollox.

  2. Aidan says:

How is it an English website? Nearly everything on it is about Irish politics

  3. James says:

@Aidan – Erm…if Mick is based in Dorset I reckon it makes it an English website no?

  4. Aidan says:

I read it every day, it’s full of posts about Irish politics. So what if he lives in Dorset, he even speaks Irish (and posts regularly as Gaeilge).
If you have to live in the 26 counties to be Irish then I am afraid that millions of us who don’t live there have just lost our nationality.

  5. TUG says:

And damo is only the 9th suggestion from google…

    Splitting Duffer and Damien Hirst!

More likely than Damien Hirst, quite an achievement!

  6. Noel Rock says:

@Aidan, you can argue the toss both ways here. It’d be just as erroneous to say it definitely isn’t English surely? It’d be similar to if I were writing about British politics from Ireland… what it’s about and where it’s written are two different things…

  7. Aidan says:

Yes, but he is not the only blogger on it. It’s a group blog where all of the posters are Irish. Most live in the north and some even live in the south. If you read that blog it’s not English at all……
The fact that Channel 4 might fund it doen’t make it English. After all they funded “Father Ted” which is hardly English comedy…

  8. Alexia Golez says:

Aidan, Father Ted was produced by Hat Trick Productions – a British TV production company. The island and priests etc were Irish, but it was a British TV show as the production company is British.

Saying Slugger O’Toole is a British blog is not untrue.

  9. Alexia Golez says:

    or English.. brainfart

  10. Aidan says:

@Alexia – I said it wasn’t English. Of course it can be classed as British (and Irish). In fact that is the whole ethos of the blog, to get input from both sides.
Partition didn’t make Irish people in the north English. Unionists may well be British but they are not English. Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy (both from the north) are currently representing Ireland in the golf World Cup and not England which has its own team.

  11. Fergal says:

Are we taking it for granted that calling someone English is some kind of insult?

  12. The only thing worse than bad press, is no press. Besides, in the immediacy of this brave new media world, who’d be crazy enough to let the truth get in the way of a good story?

  13. Ruairi says:

If it were true I’m sure Ivan Yeats would give a fuck that someone used to hate him and then changed their mind. I think that (and vice versa) is par for the course in politics and the media.

I dunno if being English is a huge insult though Damien!! Just pointing out that “Slugger O’Toole” is an incompetent imbecile should be enough.

Anyways – it was a great article!

  14. TUG says:

    Yeats? Yates? Who cares…

Former Minster for Agriculture turned bookie equals, it begins with a c…

  15. Brock Landers says:

The rest of his points are valid though, you’d have to admit that.

  16. Andrew says:

So they wrote a potentially damaging post because someone else on the internet had the same first name? That’s beyond retarded…

  17. Aidan says:

Someone else on the internet had the same first name, http://is.gd/55AC8

  18. Post title trolling much?

But yes, that was rather rude and irresponsible of them.

  19. Mick says:

I don’t know why I didn’t get it straight away, but I acknowledged straight away when Twenty pointed it out, that it wasn’t this Damien. When you are wrong you are wrong. I deserve the slap.
