It’s a free 5k for your business

Today is the deadline for the EI Innovation Vouchers though they are available again in November. They allow you to get a voucher to the value of €5000 and spend it with a University, Institute of Technology or a Research Group to do some R&D or work for you. Fair enough it might not be a lot and many of these knowledge providers scoff at the idea of doing something for that amount of money but you can pool your vouchers with other companies. Think about it. Look at all the other companies you are friendly with. Why not come up with an idea between all of you and run with it? Surveys, usability, testing out new food product ideas, creation of software or running stats on public data. Loads of possibilities. I’ve applied for one which I hope to spend with the NCI.

And on that note. Remember all that amazing data from the past 10 years of Boards.ie? Why not use it and do a project using your EI Voucher? Don’t turn down five grand from the Government, you might never have the opportunity again especially in these hard times.

  1. A free voucher for €5,000? No thanks.

I’m going to set up a bank instead and get a free voucher for €400,000,000,000.

Yeah it’s fab in theory but it can be hard to cash them in. We’ve been in negotiation with a 3rd level in Dublin for some multimedia work and it’s going on 7 months. September is probably a better time to start…not so many months off between meetings etc.

  4. I am a big fan of them and after speaking with people in the know they never get enough applicants which is insane. 5k may not seem like a lot of money to some but if used correctly it can be. We were lucky enough to get involved with the NCAD for our voucher and we now have 4 teams of 5 final year students working on iFoods as a design project for a semester. The best part about the NCAD is that they are not keeping all of the cash for themselves and will instead throw a prize in for the winning students. I URGE you to go out and apply (next time) for one of these vouchers as if used correctly they are an excellent tool

Yeah, I think it is a good idea, we applied and receivied a voucher however it seems difficult to find the administrator in any institution that lokks after the scheme, we have searched around……!
