Net screwed in Ireland past few days? You’re not alone

Update 4th September: BT Ireland officially stating they are unsure what the issue is and will revert when they do know. Been almost a week now. I’ve asked will they compensate us for the month of September for these continued outages. They’ll get back to us on that too.

BT are blaming eircom or some BT staff are. Also affecting Perlico and UTV. Seems to happen mostly in the evenings the past few days. Something is certainly screwy.

NTL/Chorus/UPC was borked last night too, FYI.

I’m on BT, the speeds seemed fine, the QoS was crap 74% – it was like on for 8 seconds, hang for 8 seconds. very 2nd class IP that IPV6 promised. 🙁

I dunno. I’m on eircom broadband at the moment (not my choice) and have had no problems in the last few days…

  4. Justin Mason says:

Eircom seemed fine for me last night. Sounds like BT staff pulling excuses out of their asses to be honest…

  5. James says:

Chorus was down for me too for awhile Matt. Also, my friend’s Eircom in Dublin has been very bad for the past few days.

  6. Mike says:

BT (dsl) last night was a disaster for streaming video. Normal service has resumed this morning

Thanks for this Damien. If it weren’t for you and this post, I’d think I was the only one having this problem. My 7.6mb connection is downloading at 4.49 kbps. Its been like this for the last week.

  8. Damien says:

    See latest update now.

  9. It’s been happening to my BT connection for over a month now. My first complaint via the website disappeared into thin air. My second complaint was marked resolved without anyone talking to me. The other night I was getting 0.2Mb out of a supposed 3Mb line and that has been typical of the service over the past while. I’m fed up of it and will be moving to UPC soon enough; it’s infinitely faster than trying to get through to BT tech support and retrieve a resolution to the problem!
