Will anyone raise the question of why Ireland is the only democratic state in the union at this point in time? And should we vote NO in order to insist on this right for our fellow states? This is probably because Ireland ultimately belongs psychologically to the larger Anglo-Saxon lingusitic World. Many people who have spoken on mainstream radio recently seem to feel insecure in relation to the shifting territories of the New Europe. Invoking the spirit of Edmund Burke and looking at the past like some pro-European analysts do is no longer enough to bring a sense of solidarity. However it is very encouraging to see the democratic process in full operation here. There is a useful debate in operation on Techfocus, The Lounge at the moment. It really would be great if everybody who has a vote could turn out. It looks as if the “No” vote will be carried.
