Love your tips, particularly "Know your material: 3 points, at most with 3 examples."

If you anwser a question by bridging to your key message, and the interviewer says, "Can you give us an example?" and you don't have one at your fingertips, you might be tempted to start babbling so there isn't dead air.

Also, as a publicity expert, I advise people to accept every invitation to do interviews, even on rinky-dink Internet radio shows that don't have many listeners. The more you interview, the more comfortable you will feel. Made your mistakes on the small shows so that, eventually, you're ready for prime time.

[...] Great post by Damien on how to deal with media interviews. Pro advice for free. Redlinking him, even though he’s already in your feed readers. It’s that good. Now, someone break his fingers. [...]

The local radio bit is so important for national campaigns. I remember after the divorce referendum had been passed, at the count centre, an RTÉ reporter interviewed Mervyn Taylor, the Minister for Equality and Law Reform who had led the government's campaign, about the campaign. She put it to him that tightness of the margin was down to his not being available for media interviews. He rebuffed her, with the figures on how many interviews he had done on local radio stations, and pointed out that this had given a larger audience than an equivelnt slot on any RTÉ programme would have given.

Good article Damien, having done several radio interviews I can see that I am doing somethings right but need to improve on my sound bites and start a crib sheet.
