I have to say I was a little put off by the fact that it was set up on a free hosting site and had a gmail.com account as its contact details.

Always bad signs.

Don't they advise you not to buy stuff from a site that doesn't have any kind of physical address/phone numbers on it too??

This guy is completely untraceable - you can't even do a whois look up.

This is true Damien - it's not cheap enough to justify flying over there just to get one.

But if you're already going, or you have a relative who's going soon, it's the most cost-effective option.

Certainly is cheaper for the item, much as practically everything is cheaper in the US. Still the E100 difference won't cover a flight back and forth :D

I see the US Apple store is down at the minute - must be making a few changes as Adam notes.

Oh and Apple have just dropped the price of the iPod Shuffle in the US to $49 - that's around €33.

I'd imagine the price in Ireland will drop to €49 too... just shows you that SDD storage is getting cheaper and cheaper.

It still works out as cheaper to buy from the US - but obviously only makes sense if you're already going to be there and just pick one up on your travels.

I'm still waiting for the 3G model and rumour has it there'll be a $100 drop in price on the iPod Touch and iPhone very soon to facilitate such a model.

As long as these rumours persist, I won't be buying!

I found this out with your help on twitter; best place to get an iPhone to unlock is to nip across to the *ahem* disputed territory and head for an O2 shop. I picked one up last week without any contract questions, and unlocked it in a few minutes with ziphone (instructions at http://url.ie/939 )

There's O2 shops in the main border towns (Derry, Newry, Enniskillen) and indeed Belfast. Lacks something of the mystique of getting one from the states, but given the recent moves in the currency rates it's now a better time than ever to buy.

16gb was dearer than states at ~E442, but that's cheaper than E599 for an 8gb!
