Wanted: WordPress plugin to search for and insert Creative Commons pics

I’ll pay too.

Maybe it’s out there already but I’d like a wordpress plugin for this blog that will allow me to to search using keywords for apt creative commons pics that I can use in blog posts. I’m tiring of my own text-only blog posts, there’s nothing like a picture to brighten things up but it’s a pain to find licence free pics.

So it would:
Bring me back a few photo options.
I’d pick the one I want.
It would then upload it, trim it (perhaps) and stick it into the blog post and give attribution.

Anyone know of such a plugin. Or want to make one?

Edit: Jazz Biscuit made this.

Which allowed me to do this after searching for “Dublin”:

Damien I don’t know of any plugin that would do this for you, but you can always check the creative commons section of Flickr.

    http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

There’s also a tag sub-section to help narrow down your search.

    Regards,
    Paul.

Closest thing I can think of is http://www.picapp.com – It’s in beta at the moment but it looks very interesting. Their blog goes into more detail at

    http://picappcom.typepad.com/

You could sign up for the beta, I’m sure they would welcome you on board.

A plug in that you describe would be very nice alright though.

Damien – Segala is working with Creative Commons and it’ll soon be possible to label your site with a Content Label. What used to take our developers half a man day, now takes less than a minute using the new app I showed you – don’t think it included CC back then.

    Hi Damien,

I liked your suggestion so I fooled around for a bit:

    http://www.jazzbiscuit.com/blogCCsearch/

It doesn’t do what you asked. My tool provides embed code which you then copy and paste to your blog like the way youtube embedding works.

It uses the flickr API and should only return attribute licensed work.

Though, I take no responsibility if it doesn’t work and you get sued!!! I’d check the first few images!

Create a bookmark to Flickr Search for CC, then use the embed code they give you. Easy as pie.

The thing Jazz Biscuit created is great – would be very useful for me too. Time to get John B to work making it into a wordpress plugin…

  8. […] Damien Mulley made a post yesterday asking for a wordpress (a really good blogging platform – it powers Jazz Biscuit too) plugin that would allow him to find creative commons licensed images and upload them to his blog. Never heard of creative commons? Check out creativecommons.org or the wikipedia entry. […]

    Just found this plugin:

    Looks good!

I was just looking for a similar application/WP plugin and came across this Jazz Biscuit here through your blog. So I tried this and also the Photo Dropper plugin.
But I also just found an Application called ImageCodr (http://www.imagecodr.org/) where you can paste the link to a CC-licensed Flickr photo and it will generate the HTML. I think this is much better because the search on Flickr itself finds much more photos than the other applications and the HTML generated is also better.

The photo dropper plugin looks great. Almost what I’m looking for. I don’t suppose anyone knows of a way to get the image descriptions in WordPress image upload showing beneath an image when it’s inserted into an article? Now that would be great.
