Outside the boardroom these stats from ComScore ,Alexa and their ilk have no meaning they are only to be believed as and when Netcraft confirms it.
If you have ever wondered why GAA.ie is slow some days it might have something to do with it being hosted in Australia !!

Where do they get their stats, ramdom sampling. Where are RTE.ie.
RTE are ABC audited and their unique users are set at 1.5 million plus with 43 million plus page impressions. How do they not feature on the top 10 most popular site list. Given the most pupular news site in the UK is the Guardian with 120 million page impressions, I would say RTE at 43 million given the size of the Irish web audience would do enough to get up the comscore list. ireland.com are also ABC audited and quote 1.18 million unique users with traffic of over 17 million page impressions. Seems this set of stats are fairly worthless and only help confuse matters.

I've discovered that the good people at eircom believe that "sometime in the middle of 2008" is an acceptable connection date to give for either a telephone line or broadband.

"universal service" is increasingly a myth

I am not so sure about these 'facts' - as most people are with any stat that says 'x number of people connected to y' - the Net is notoriously unreliable as a vehicle for counting use. For example, many people who have a Skype account are 'on the net' every time they switch on their computer and even during when they don't, Skype tends to 'call-in'.
I had recently reason to look at what was happening on my connection, 'cos I thought I was being tagged by a spammer. It is very interesting to see what is going on..... and I'd say some of these activities are logged as 'uses'.

Anyway, would you believe eircom?

Bye, Barry

Is lotto.ie strictly speaking a gambling site? I mean I get that might well be termed an enabler but you can't actually gamble on the site itself so it's a bit like calling the racing results page on aertel a gambling site.

Other interesting fact:
Labour passed a motion (proposed by yours truly) making it policy to have the existing universal service provision for a telephone line changed to be one for a broadband data connection. Now, all we need to do is win an election... ;)
