    I was burnt by gracenote when they tried to move us all over to the closed ccdb2, a quick wget and freedb was born. What really pissed me off was having spent countless hours, like 1000’s of others around the world adding data over the previous 5 years on the understanding that the data would remain free.

    Only then did I begin to understand the true value of user generated data…….

    /fat fingers: ccdb=cddb but you knew that 😉

    I view it as kinda like the record companies using local torrent trackers to work out which single to release in each country 🙂

    The last.fm chart seems more accurate to me but I would imagine it should be the other way around, Gracenote take their figures from iTunes and WMP don’t they? And Last.fm from signed up users? Also curious that Arcade Fire would be number 2 in the last.fm one if it were not for the fact that some users put a ‘The’ at the front while some don’t.
