Fluffy links – Tuesday 17th July 2007

Japan bans websites for the election. Imagine that happening here?

Another moon lifting pic, this one more local.

Very very tempting to install Ubuntu now.

For one I agree with Seth Godin and his views on farmers markets becoming mainstream.

A visual way (using maps) of planning your flights. This would definitely be worth sticking on flight websites.

Escape from those damned plastic handcuffs.

Go for it, install Ubuntu – it’s a great little O/S – but just make sure that if you still need to boot to Windows you have it backed up properly (ghosted, for example). After I installed Ubuntu on my hard drive something happened which corrupted my Windows partition beyond repair and I had to reformat and reinstall. I’ve got Ghost installed now doing regular backups and it’ll be a while before I trust myself enough to go re-partitioning and installing Linux again!

I’m with Niall on this, go for and use Ubuntu, changed to it myself last week or so, amazing OS! 🙂

One mistake alot of people make when they repartition for a new os is that they don’t defrag the windows partition. This can lead to coruption and data loss sometimes being irrecoverable such as I suspect is what happend in Niall’s case.

Ubuntu really is an amazing distro though. Best of luck with it if you decide to use it! And sure, booting the live cd can’t hurt anything either so might as well try it out for the sake of science and furthering knowledge and all that jazz.
