They lost the engine on take off, the most hazardous part of the flight and when you need most power. Despite that they were able to continue the climb out and successfully return to the ground. There was a time when that might not have ended so well. It just shows how far the technology (and regulations) have come. Twin engine aircraft are required to be able to complete their take off on ONE engine. That plane one is actually quite reassuring.
