Newstalk “fake”election posters litter Lower Road in Cork

Noticed today that Newstalk also have those fake election posters on lampposts around the train station in Cork. Not had a chance to get a photo though. Cork City hall said they will get fined if the litter warden goes down and sees them.

Is there no end to their cuntiness?

Are the people who put up posters before the collection was called liable for prosecution? If so Mattie McGrath in South Tipp better watch out. He has had posters festooned on lamp posts and bridges since Mid April.

The Tayto-style lamp-post posters are obviously unlicensed and should be removed, but the bus shelter ones are (I believe) are exempt from removal. Anyone have a definative story on the legality of the lamp-post posters?

I drove from Limerick to Dublin last weekend saw a plethora of the shelter ones on my commute out of Limerick, especially in Castleconnell and Birdhill.

I don’t really mind the shelter ones, given that as they are being hosted in advertising space they WILL be removed. The lamp-post ones are another story.

The Newstalk ones I was on about are actually on poles. I’ve seen the bus shelter ones too. I talked to the litter wardens and they said the ones on the poles are illegal.

Newstalk are the media wing of Fine Gael and have the nickname oppositiontalk. Newstalk is owned by Denis O’Brien who made much of his fortune off the back of Fine Gael corruption in the 90s. As a result Newstalk operate a pro-Fine Gael Ethos (it was rumoured that was a factor in Dunphy leaving them). In the 3 months before the election was called Enda Kenny and Pat Rabbitt shared a daily free 10 minute publicity slot on the Eamon Keane show. Newstalk are to Fine Gael what Fox News are to the Republican Party in the US. No direct links but a blind man can see it.

Fine Gael corruption? Shock! Horror! Imagine a political party guilty of corruption in Ireland. I’m glad we have you around to keep us on the straight and narrow and to point out these obviously hidden practices of our politicians.

I hope you are running for office Mike as I’d vote for you!
