Fluffy Links – May 3rd 2007

Get your Joost invites.

Fuck EI and Irish VCs, learn Mandarin. The Chinese have a Trillion to invest.

Seems someone wanted 45k to hand the main Obama profile over to Obama. Up to now it was run like a fansite. Now Obama’s people got the profile shut down instead. Shutting down your biggest fan makes sense how?

Via the Guardian is a very Fight Club looking ad for Nike, including the Ed Norton voiceover:

I really can’t stand that Nike ad. Most overblown one I’ve seen in ages. “I’ve left this world and come back changed…” Yuck.

there’s a moment on the fight club dvd commentary where norton speaks about the scene where he and tyler durden are setting off car crash response systems – including one of those revamped VW Beetles. He talks about how it represented the ultimate repackaging of a generations failed hopes, commercialised and commodified, packaged for a new generation as easy idealism, right down to the flower embossed on the dashboard. I thought he was dead right. And if he said the same about this ad, he’d be dead right again. Strange that it only took six or seven years for this to be recycled.
