Irish Blog Awards 2007 – Categories finalised/ Sponsorship update

Irish Blog Awards 21 categories. Maybe it can be expanded further next time but going from 13 to 21 is good enough for this one. I’ve also taken on-board the comments about sponsorship and so will try and be more frugal with the event expenses and so ask for less from sponsors. There will not be a main sponsor.

I’ll be looking for a standard fee for 20 of the categories. I think it will be โ‚ฌ200-300 but price will be finalised once I get all costings and it might get down past the 200 euros mark if I get super-mean ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope to have an auction for the Best Blog category sponsorship since so many were offering lots of money for that and I want to give a good prize along with the trophy for it. The auction will be slightly different in that the highest bid price will not be the accepted one. The highest bidder (if we have bidders) will pay the second highest bid price. Bids have to be 500 euros or more.

EDIT: The auction for Best Blog sponsorship will be private for obvious reasons. (second highest price goes to top biffer etc) Another post will follow on this auction process.

I want to cover all costs with sponsorship but there will be an entrance fee like last year. All money from the entrance fee will go to charity. Rick O’Shea is a patron of the Brainwave epilepsy charity so I think it should to go them this time. A different charity will be chosen at the next Awards. If we want one.

I’ll open the bidding for Best Blog at Euro 600.

Arghh no. The auction will be private for obvious reasons. I’ll be sending an additional post soon about the sponsorship process.

Now what sort of all round good egg are you? ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d like to suggest that my exhorbitant appearance fee go to the same fund…. That is if I’m being asked back, of course ๐Ÿ™‚

    Damien,
Your sense of public spirit (blogospirit?) never fails to stun me. You’ll probably take a lot of shit before the Blog awards are done and dusted but rest assured some of us think you are the best.

Given the way blogosphere has gone, suggest an award category for most-lamented-no-longer-blogging award category. I can think of millions of nominees!

Best of luck with the awards.
    Paige

Would it be in poor taste to do a montage like they do for the Oscars when people have died in the previous 12 months but do it for bloggers who have stopped blogging?

  6. Twenty Major says:

Only if they were actually dead. Should we kill some just to make it more poignant?

  7. Rick says:

Count me in Twenty… Real tears to the eye on the night will make my job a hell of a lot easier.

รขโ€šยฌ200-300 is much more reasonable Damien, I reckon I’d be able to stretch to that, if I sell the car and stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. blankpaige says:

Oscar-esque montage is a must. Any chance we could get Miriam O’Callaghan to do a voice over and make it really scary?

  10. Could always auction off the sponsorship for the ‘best blog’ on E-Bay …
