It's both gorgeous and horrifically brutal, yet not in the gory way most Asian cinema seems to aspire to. Although it looked gorgeous, the plot was so OTT and so pompous I could barely keep in the inappropriate laughter. Compared to Sympathy For Lady Vengeance, it was a mess. Still haven't seen Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. Though I fully intend to! I’m into my Asian cinema and all, but you know, I really didn’t think much of Old Boy.
