5. Is the Irish military underfunded?

It’s shit. I don’t think it being better funded will make it better. Wait til people read about the Army’s own version of PPARS. That’s going to be fun. The Army is a Civil service built and designed to “think stupid and waste money. Unless it becomes efficient I don’t see a reason to throw more money at it.

Damien - what are you on about...? The "Army" isn't a Civil Service - though it is subject to a quintessential example of a meddling, bumbling one, in the form of the DoD.

That is the thing Dave, to you there is a massive difference. To Me relative poverty is a person who is on social welfare, living in a corporation house, who is able to feed their kids and with verious allowances, pay their ESB Gas or coal heating and buy themselves clothing. That is relative poverty to me. without those benefits, people would be absoloutely poor. sleeping on the street without two shillings to rub together.

The point is Squid is that you get absolutely massive number of people in modern Ireland listed as poor despite the fact they aren't. What they are is less well off than others but to me there's a massive difference. Absolute poverty is 'i don't have enough money for heating, food, clothing etc.', Relative poverty is '20 of my neighbours have all the movie channels on Sky Digital, I can't afford the premium channels'

Throwing the Bush comment in there is a bit of a strawman.

The second question is stupid i think.

If you don't look after the relatively poor, they will become absoloutly poor, thus you will have to look after them anyway. Besides, what is relative poverty, who decides the destinction between reletive and absoloute poverty?

If his brand of conservative was successful, then Bush wouldnt be at 29 percent approval rating.
