Damien Rice to curate a stage at Electric Picnic

Twenty is going to be pissed. Via Eskimo Friends is news that Electric Picnic is going to have Damien Rice be a stage curator.

Damien will be performing at the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, Co. Laois, Ireland, on the weekend of September 1st. Damien has spoken in the past about wanting to organise a boutique festival and Hot Press reports that Damien will be hosting a stage at this year’s festival.

Is this the new twist for Electric Picnic this year? Have curators for the stages? One curator per stage per night? All Tomorrows Parties do this for their yearly festival. It’s an interesting and fun idea. I think they had Matt Groening (creator of Simpsons) curating one of the days last year.

Oh god, say it ain’t so.

I don’t mind the idea of curators, it works at ATP and The Meltdown festival in London is another positive example.

One stage should be given over to curators, no more, I think it would get too agenda-ish otherwise.

Meant to ask you Damien – has the response to the blog awards been completely positive? I’ve been so busy that my blog reading (nevermind posting) has been seriously curtailed.

Agreed, changing the format of the festival completely would be bad. ATP seems to work very well, but then they get high calibre people to curate 😉

Damien Rice curating a stage sends very bad signals to me about the strength in depth of the acts that are signed up.

I’ve heard some more rumours in dribs and drabs today over and above what has been pinging about on forums for the past few months, and I have to say, they are underwhelming :/ Fingers crossed for the announcement tonight.
