At this rate every journo was at the riots

Kevin mentions another journo was at the Dublin riots. Roisín is added to an ever expanding list of people who can say “You weren’t there man, you don’t know what it was like, I was in ‘Nam mannnn” or some other such crap. I read the local rag known as the Evening Echo and one of their columnists happened to be there too. Does anyone feel that at this rate O’Connell street was busier than Christmas and packed full of journalists? I dunno but I’m getting slightly suspicious. See, I’d trust bloggers more at this stage and the photos and eyewitness testimony within a few short hours are proof for me. Reminds me of the stories about people claiming they were at Woodstock.

Lets go through all those photos that were taken and see can we spot any of these journos who now claim they were there.

As the old story goes – if everyone who said they were in the GPO in 1916 were actually there then we’d have won….

damien, you’re very suspicous of us poor journos! to be honest i don’t think there was a huge number covering the march initially, but i think once word got out that it was kicking off every hack in town made his way there – as apparently charlie bird was doing when attacked.

John, I never take anything for gospel that I read unless I’ve written it myself. Fair enough if people ran to the riot to cover it but I’m begining to see some opportunistic journalism from some quarters who start off their story on how they just happened to be in or around O’Connell street at just that moment.

But sure everyone was there. I mean I’m 21 years old and I still remember Munster beating the All Blacks in 1978. 🙂

and Olivia O’Leary was there too….her political diary tonight on 5-7 live details her experiences.

Well, I saw Suzanne Breen there, and that NewsTalk 106 guy too.

(Patricia McKenna as well. I overheard her remarking on how “disgraceful” the rioting we could all hear at the time was.)
